The Admirals weathered a strong Jackals start, then opened the scoring 8:16 into the first period. T.J. Foster gave the Admirals a 1-0 lead on a give-and-go play near the left wing circle with John Dunbar. Foster got free because of the give-and-go and fired one in for his 18th goal of the season.
The Jackals bombarded the Admirals with a four-goal outburst in the second period. Casey Thrush got it going just 18 seconds into the period, picking up a pass from Matt Stanisz and jetting down the left wing. He lifted a backhand shot past goalie Philippe Desrosiers to tie the game at one. It remained tied at one for the next 10 minutes until Sebastien Sylvestre put Elmira ahead 2-1, making a great move through the neutral zone before firing a shot from the left circle into the top corner.
The Jackals continue to build on the lead late in the period as Thrush put home his second goal of the period. While shorthanded, Thrush poked the puck down the right wing then zoomed behind the Admirals defense and slipped a shot five hole on Desrosiers, giving the Jackals a 3-1 lead at 16:45. Justin Kea then capped the scoring with a wraparound goal at 18:38 and the Jackals took a 4-1 lead into the third period.
The Admirals attempted a large third period comeback and made it a two-goal game at 13:14 on a goal by John Dunbar. The Jackals responded a few minutes later on the power play, with Kenton Miller receiving a pass in front of the net, where he sent a quick backhand shot in for his team-leading 22nd goal of the season and a 5-2 Jackals lead.
Norfolk sent a late flurry against Elmira, picking up two goals in less than a minute to get within one, 5-4, with 1:40 to play in regulation, but the Jackals held off the Admirals for their second straight win over the Admirals.
