Friday March 10 vs. The Norwalk Admirals
ELMIRA, NY - March 10, 2017 - Jason Kasdorf made 39 saves to backstop the Elmira Jackals (14-38-7-1) to a 4-2 win over the Norfolk Admirals (21-34-4-0) Friday night at First Arena. The win gives the Jackals a three-game winning streak for the first time this season and gives them the season-series victory over Norfolk, five games to four.
After a sluggish start for both teams, the Jackals opened the scoring at 16:38 of the first period with the only goal of the opening 20 minutes. Justin Kea battled for the puck along the right wing boards, poked it ahead to Sam Povorozniouk, who gave it back to Kea near the wall. Kea stepped free and found room near the top of the right circle, where he skated toward the slot and wristed one in for a 1-0 lead on his eighth goal of the season.
The Admirals pulled even in the second period, taking advantage of their second power play of the game when T.J. Foster buried a rebound near the bottom of the right circle. The initial shot was stopped, but Foster quickly sent the rebound back to net, beating Jason Kasdorf to tie the game 1-1 at 9:59.
The game remained tied until the final minute of the second period when Sebastien Sylvestre broke in on a breakaway. Sylvestre got the puck near the blue line and raced in on goal, slipping the puck through the pads of Philippe Desrosiers to give the Jackals a 2-1 lead at 19:14 of the second.
The Admirals again tied the game, this time early in the third period, as Tommy Giroux scored his first professional goal on a loose puck near the crease. Elmira broke the tie about six minutes later when Greg Amlong stepped into a slap shot from near the right wall. The rocket beat Desrosiers cleanly past the glove for Amlong's third goal of the season, putting the Jackals up 3-2 at 10:16 of the third.
Justin Kea would ice the game away with the Jackals second breakaway goal of the night. He picked up the puck on a lead pass down the right wing and cut across the slot before snapping one past Desrosiers for a 4-2 Jackals lead at 16:51.
Kasdorf stopped 15 shots in both the second and third period to preserve the Jackals third straight win over the Admirals.
