Sunday March 26 vs. The Manchester Monarchs
ELMIRA, NY - March 26, 2017 - Jason Kasdorf turned aside all 26 shots, including 13 in the third period as the Elmira Jackals (17-42-7-1) blanked the Manchester Monarchs (34-22-7-4), 2-0, Sunday at First Arena for their second win in three days over the Monarchs. It was Kasdorf's first professional shutout and the first for a Jackals goalie this season.
The teams played a tight first period and the game remained scoreless after the opening 20 minutes. Both teams failed on a power play, while a building animosity boiled over with a fight between Kyle Rankin and Colton Saucerman at the final buzzer.
The Jackals continued their strong defensive play throughout the second period and then got a late power-play goal to jump ahead 1-0 through two periods. With Wade Murphy serving a double minor for high sticking, Nathan Moon potted his first goal as a member of the Jackals on a left circle shot at 15:46. His shot from the circle tipped off the stick of Manchester's Saucerman and got past Jack Flinn for a 1-0 Jackals advantage, which carried into the third.
Elmira extended the lead in the third period when Kenton Miller netted his 30th goal of the season on a shot from the left circle, giving him goals in six straight games, the longest active streak in the ECHL. It's also the first time in his ECHL Career that he has hit the 30 goal mark.
Kasdorf carried the Jackals the rest of the way, with 13 saves in the third period to hold off the Monarchs and earn his first professional shutout as the Jackals picked up a 2-0 win in their final Sunday home game.
