Friday December 4, 2015 vs. the Kalamazoo K-Wings
ELMIRA, NY - December 4, 2015 - Jacob MacDonald scored a shorthanded goal for the second consecutive game and the Jackals fired 49 shots on net, but David Gilbert's goal with 10 seconds remaining lifted the Wings past the Jackals, 3-2.
On Teddy Bear Toss Night, the Jackals scored early and sent a flurry of furry animals into the air and onto the ice just 5:24 into the contest. Mark Bennett started the rush and finished it on a tap-in from the slot for his third goal of the season. Zach Tolkinen fed the puck through the slot to Tyler Currier who found Bennett alone for the early strike.
The Jackals controlled the pace of play and offensive chances, but the Wings capitalized on a fortunate breakaway to tie the game late in the second period. Scott Jacklin's stick exploded as he attempted a shot from just inside the blueline which allowed Cory Pritz to spring Justin Taylor on a breakaway for his fifth goal of the season at 16:04 of the period. Despite outshooting the Wings 20-9 in the middle frame and 32-17 through 40 minutes, the score was knotted at 1-1 heading into the third period.
The Wings took advantage of an early power-play opportunity as Dane Fox fired a shot off the far post and past Niklas Lundstrom to give Kalamazoo the lead 3:23 into the final frame. Then minutes later, on another Kalamazoo power-play, Nick Petrecki found Mike Seidel to create a two-on-one rush with Jacob MacDonald and Seidel fed a beautiful pass to MacDonald for the shorthanded tying tally. It appeared the game was headed to overtime despite 49 shots on goal by the Jackals, but David Gilbert found a bouncing puck at the Wings' blueline and raced down the right wing side ripping a shot past Lundstrom for the go-ahead goal with 10 seconds remaining.
Niklas Lundstrom turned aside 22 of 25 shots faced but was handed the hard luck loss. Joel Martin stopped 47 of 49 shots faced to earn the win.
