Saturday Night December 26, 2015 vs. The Reading Royals
Jackals Blanked Again By Morrison, Royals
ELMIRA, NY - December 26, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals were shutout tonight by Adam Morrison and the Reading Royals for the second consecutive game. Morrison made 45 saves to earn the 4-0 shutout win.
Adam Comrie started the scoring for the Royals at 12:23 of the first period with a blast through traffic from the point for his 11th goal of the season. Ian Watters and Mike Marcou recorded the assists on the eventual game-winning goal. The Jackals out-shot the Royals 10-7 in the first frame, but trailed 1-0 at the intermission.
The Jackals continued to pepper Morrison with shots, notching 18 in the second period alone, but they could not solve the Royals' netminder.
Just 33 seconds into the third period a questionable offsides which was not called led to a turnover at the Elmira blueline and a clear lane for Justin Crandall to blast his eighth of the season past Niklas Lundstrom. Minutes later Justin Kea was whistled for slashing and the Jackals were given a bench minor for too many men on the ice, setting Reading up with a 5-on-3 power-play for the full two minutes. The Royals needed just 15 seconds to strike as Adam Comrie fired a slap shot past Lundstrom for his second of the night, assisted by Marcou and Crandall. The Royals scored again on the man advantage just 24 seconds later with Crandall's second goal of the game, assisted by Reid and Czarnik. Niklas Lundstrom was pulled following the Royals' fourth goal, giving way to C.J. Motte in relief duty.
Niklas Lundstrom turned aside 16 of 20 shots faced in 44:37 of work and was handed the loss. C.J. Motte stopped all five shots he faced in 14:54 of relief work. Adam Morrison stopped all 45 shots he faced for his second consecutive shutout win.
