Sunday Afternoon January 17, 2016 vs. The Adirondack Thunder
ELMIRA, NY - January 17, 2016 - Alex Vazzano was spectacular in his Jackals debut stopping 36 of 37 shots faced, but was outdueled by Kent Simpson and the Adirondack Thunder, 1-0.

The lone goal of the contest came at 13:09 of the first period as Louick Marcotte played the puck ahead at the Jackals blue line while a defenseman stepped up on him creating a two-one-one rush for Mitchell Heard and James Henry. Heard fed the puck to his left and Henry fired a wrist shot past the glove of Vazzano for his second goal of the season. Alex Vazzano, who was making his first ECHL start since April 10, 2015, weathered the storm in the opening stanza stopping 15 of 16 shots faced.
Both goaltenders continued to put on a show in the second period stonewalling each offensive opportunity. Alex Vazzano made a highlight reel save on a three-on-one shorthanded rush for the Thunder kicking out his right pad to keep the Jackals within one. On the other end, Kent Simpson was calm and collected in net stopped each scoring chance for Elmira.
Vazzano and Simpson continued their goaltender duel throughout the third frame as the Jackals tried desperately to push one past the Thunder netminder to tie the game. Simpson shut the door earning his second consecutive shutout and third consecutive team shutout for the Thunder.
The Jackals dropped their sixth straight game and second consecutive shutout loss.
Alex Vazzano stopped 36 of 37 shots faced but suffered the tough luck loss. Kent Simpson stopped all 24 shots faced for the shutout win.
