Friday April 7 vs. The Adirondack Thunder
ELMIRA, NY - April 7, 2017 - The Adirondack Thunder (40-20-7-4) scored three unanswered goals in the first period and three unanswered in the third to run away with a 7-1 win over the Elmira Jackals (17-46-7-1) at First Arena Friday night. With the win, the Thunder clinched the North Division and the teams will square off again tomorrow in the final game in Jackals history.
The Thunder dominated the first period, cruising to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Former Jackal Patch Alber opened the scoring 4:15 into the first, scoring from in close on Andy Iles for a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Dennis Kravchenko made it 2-0 on a wrist shot from the slot at 12:42. Brock Montgomery capped the first period scoring, netting a goal on a scramble near the crease at 18:12 for a 3-0 lead, chasing Iles from the Jackals crease.
The Jackals bit back in a second period that saw a pair of fights and countless post-whistle scrums. Kenton Miller made it a 3-1 game 2:29 into the second period, snapping a shot from the right circle to extend his home goal-scoring streak to seven games.
Adirondack went ahead by three again later in the period on a left circle shot from Brett Pollock, wrisiting a power-play goal at 9:33 to give the Thunder a 4-1 lead.
The Thunder took control again in the third period, pulling away with a three-goal third period. Dennis Kravchenko scored his second of the night at 2:54 of the third for a 5-1 lead. Then back-to-back power-play goals, including a 5-on-3 goal and the Thunder ran away with a 7-1 victory to clinch the North Division.
